Argentina has formally presented the candidacy of Ambassador Rafael Grossi to the post of Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). On July 22, Yukiya Amano, Director General of the IAEA during the last 10 years, passed away ant it is expected that during the month of September the Board of Governors – made up of 35 countries – will elect a new Director General. Argentina has a long tradition in the use of nuclear energy and enjoys great prestige and international recognition, standing out in the IAEA membership from its origins, as well as the dominance of the nuclear fuel and the export of nuclear reactors and nuclear technology to Algeria, Peru, Egypt, Australia, etc. Ambassador Rafael Grossi is a Resident Representative of the IAEA and has three decades of experience in affaires related to Non-Proliferation and International Security. Currently, he has been appointed President of the Non-Proliferation Conference (NTP) that will take place in 2020.
