427 performances at the Sibiu International Theatre Festival

The Sibiu International Theatre Festival (FITS) takes place this year during June 12 – 21 and includes 427 events, performed by 2,500 artists, in 67 locations, declared FITS President Constantin Chiriac on Wednesday in a press conference in Bucharest.
The festival takes place this year under the high patronage of the Romanian president. “I hope that receiving high patronage will represent a strong symbol of the respect Romania shows creation, theatre and culture, in general. (…) I am confident that this year’s edition will represent a new landmark of excellence in the field of grand international festivals. I ask you to prove once again the way the city can experience, invest and promote its democratic and long-lasting development through culture”, the message of the Romanian President, sent to FITS, shows.
This year, FITS is attended by a record number of 70 countries. Especially for the festival, two new performance venues were built, in Sibiu, Chiriac mentioned.
“After 2007, I have tried to make the festival grow. (…), the theme of this year’s festival is “Growing smart, smart growing”, which is the manner we can grow smartly, but healthily”, the president of the festival added.
Constantin Chiriac outlined that most performances included in FITS are already “sold out”, as the festival has an average number of 65,000 visitors each day.
Also, the FITS president declared that the organizers of the festival have made efforts to set the maximum limit of “indoor” shows at RON 40.
Besides theatre performances, the schedule of FITS also includes film screenings, a performances stock exchange, a platform dedicated to visual arts, coordinated by Dan Perjovschi, book launches and conferences.
The “Celebrity Alley” project continues this year at FITS. Among personalities due to receive a star in 2015, there is the actor and director Klaus Maria Brandauer, director Eimuntas Nekrosius, dramatist and director Joel Pommerat, director, script writer and dramatist Neil LaBute and director and actor Kazuyoshi Kushida.
Also, at FITS, there will be a meeting of representatives of 11 Romanian cities and seven Greek cities aspiring to the title of 2011 European Cultural Capital, during a dedicated event.
‘10,000 tickets already sold’
As many as 10,000 tickets have already been sold for the 22nd edition of the Sibiu International Theatre Festival (FITS), held between June 12-22, as announced by the organizers.
Theatre lovers have ten more days at their disposal to buy one of the 11,000 tickets left.
Also as a result of the high demand, the organizers included the following shows in the programme: ‘The Cruelty of Beauty and Power (Phaedra’s Laboratory)”, RootlessRoot (Greece) – to take place Friday, June 19, 5 pm, Romania’s time, at the Radu Stanca National Theatre in Sibiu; ‘La Tiganci’ [With the Gypsy Girls]- UNITEATRU (Romania – Saturday, June 20, 4 pm, Romania’s time, to take place at the Gong Theatre for Children and Youth and ‘For Sale’, performed by the Odeon Theatre (Romania) – to take place on Sunday, June 21, 10 pm, Romania’s time, to be hosted by the Octavian Goga National College.
Moreover, there was supplemented the number of tickers for each of the three performances of ‘Faust’ (The Radu Stanca National Theatre of Sibiu), scheduled for June 12, 14 and 20, 10 pm, to take place at the Baza SC Constructii SA.
